Why stories can be transformative.
We are taught to hide awkward, uncomfortable and shameful experiences. But when we bring them into the light, something powerful happens: people recognize themselves in one another and that can lead to a transformative experience. By bringing what we’ve kept hidden into the open, we can begin to disarm its power over us and realize that we are not alone. In fact, we are more alike than we are different. There's power in saying, "this happened to me." There's power in someone else saying, "me too!" And there is freedom in realizing, “Maybe I don’t need to be ashamed of this after all.”
You can share anonymously, or use your name. Either way, sharing your experience helps to create recognition and awareness that can transform something that once made us feel ashamed into a source of connection and empowerment.
